New Zealand Driving Licence

A New Zealand driving licence allows a person to legally drive vehicles on public roads according to the licence class and conditions that apply to them.

New Zealand uses a graduated driver licensing system. New drivers generally progress through three stages: Learner Licence, Restricted New Zealand Fake driving Licence , and Full Licence.

New Zealand Fake Drivers License for learners

A person must meet the minimum age requirement and pass the required theory test to obtain a Learner Licence.

Learner drivers must follow the conditions of their licence and display L plates when driving. They must also be accompanied by a qualified supervising driver when required.

New Zealand has a graduated driver licensing system (GDLS) which means drivers move from a learner to a restricted and then a full licence. Currently, learner, restricted and full New Zealand Fake Drivers licence must be renewed every 10 years.

The GDLS is designed to make sure new drivers have the skills and experience to drive safely on our roads.

In 2025 the Ministry reviewed the system to reduce the cost and access barriers to getting a New Zealand Fake Driving licence , while supporting better road safety outcomes.

The updated system will take effect from 25 January 2027, when all New Zealand Fake Driver licence holders move to the new settings.

Restricted Licence

After gaining sufficient driving experience and meeting the required conditions, a learner can apply for a Restricted New Zealand Fake Derivers Licence by passing the practical driving test.

Restricted drivers can drive independently but must follow certain conditions and restrictions. These may include rules concerning passengers, driving hours and alcohol.

The updated system will take effect from 25 January 2027, when all licence holders move to the new settings.

The key changes include

  • No more full New Zealand Fake Driving licence practical test.
  • For under 25-year-olds, the learner licence period will increase from six to 12 months. This can be reduced to six months by completing a specified number of practice hours or a practical driving course.
  • The restricted licence period will be 12 months for under 25s and six months for over 25s, with no option to reduce it with a defensive driving course.
  • Drivers on their restricted licence will face a further six months on their restricted if they get any demerit points.
  • Eyesight checks will only be required at the first New Zealand Fake Driver license application and at each renewal.
  • All learner and restricted drivers, regardless of age, will be subject to a zero-alcohol limit.
  • NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) will gain new powers to monitor and suspend New Zealand Fake driver Licence training course

Full New Zealand Driver Fake Drivers License

After holding a Restricted Licence for the required period and meeting the relevant requirements, a driver can progress to a Full Zealand Fake ID  Licence.

A Full Licence provides greater driving privileges and fewer restrictions. Drivers must still follow New Zealand road rules, speed limits, alcohol limits and other legal requirements.

The third and last stage is getting your full Zealand Fake ID driver licence.

To get your full licence you must be at least 18 years old (or 17 and a half years if you have completed an approved Zealand Fake ID advanced driving course).

You need to:

  • have a current restricted Zealand Fake ID licence
  • have held your restricted licence for at least three, six, 12 or 18 months (depending on your age and whether you have completed an approved course) and
  • pass a practical test.

For example:

  • if you are 25 years old and have completed an approved course, you need to have had your restricted licence for at least three months.
  • if you are 18 years old and did not complete the Zealand Fake ID driving skills course you must have held your restricted licence for at least 18 months (this is reduced to 12 months if you have done an approved course).

Driver Licence Classes

New Zealand has different licence classes for different types of vehicles.

  • Class 1: Cars, light vehicles and similar vehicles

  • Class 2: Medium rigid vehicles

  • Class 3: Medium combination vehicles

  • Class 4: Heavy rigid vehicles

  • Class 5: Heavy combination vehicles

  • Class 6: Motorcycles

Additional endorsements may be required for certain specialised vehicles or driving activities.

Licence Renewal

New Zealand driver licences have an expiry date. Drivers must renew their licence when required and may need to meet additional requirements depending on their age and circumstances.

Driving in New Zealand

All drivers must follow New Zealand road rules. New Zealand drives on the left-hand side of the road, and drivers must carry a valid New Zealand Fake ID licence appropriate for the vehicle they are operating.

Driving without a valid licence or providing false licence information can result in legal penalties.
